GSA Awards Federal Relay Contract to Sprint

WASHINGTON /PRNewswire/ — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded the new Federal Relay Service contract to Sprint Communications Company, LP on August 6.

Sprint holds the current contract for the Federal Information Relay Service.

The Federal Relay Service acts as an intermediary between hearing individuals and individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or have speech disabilities for telecommunications.

It is used by citizens contacting Federal Government employees as well as by Federal employees themselves to conduct their business.

Under the new contract, this intermediary service will be available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and will have non-domestic as well as domestic coverage.

Service will be effective on September 1, 1998, and will run for two base years with three (3) one-year renewal options. Projected value of this contract is $15 million.
