Interpreter Sentenced for Having Sex with Deaf Teen
By The Associated Press
A former teacher’s aide who served as a sign language interpreter for a 14-year-old deaf student was sentenced to 12 months in jail for having a sexual relationship with the boy.
“We send our children to school to be educated, not to learn about sex,” Henrico County Circuit Judge James E. Kulp said Wednesday in sentencing Lisa Chouen.
The judge suspended all but 12 months of a six-year sentence on two convictions of taking indecent liberties with a minor. Ms. Chouen, 29, had faced up to 10 years. Ms. Chouen took full responsibility for her behavior and apologized to the boy and his family, as well as to her family and friends.
