Deaf Vision: A Collection of Inspiring Stories from the Deaf Community

The editors of “Deaf Vision: A Collection of Inspiring Stories from the Deaf Community” are seeking stories which reflect the indomitable spirit of the Deaf Community. Have you or a friend ever achieved something no one thought was possible? Have you ever rose above a chorus of “you can’t” and shown the world you CAN? We are looking for stories from the Deaf Community.

Whether they are touching, insightful, empowering, humorous or tear-jerking—we are interested in seeing submissions that show Deaf individuals in a positive light. Examples are:

• Success Stories (in school, career, community, and home)
• Relationships (romance stories from a deaf perspective, family relationships)
• Against-All-Odds Stories
• Political Issues (i.e. greater opportunities that are available as a result of successfully fighting for your rights)
• Humorous Goof-ups or Blunders

Although the stories focus on the lives of Deaf people, we welcome contributions from hearing relatives, interpreters and others who are involved in the Deaf Community.

Deadline for Submissions is November 30, 1998!

(Publication Date: Spring of 1999)

Criteria

• Submissions be about the Deaf Community (Note: there will be one chapter titled “Relative to the Deaf Community” that will include stories about CODAs, KODAs and Interpreters)
• Written submissions be 1-5 pages in length, or videotape submissions of less than 30 minutes
• Submitters may reserve the option to use their name or remain anonymous. There will be no financial compensation for submissions.

Editors reserve the right to edit or reject submissions.

About the Editors: Mark Drolsbaugh is the author of “Deaf Again” and writes a regular column for DeafNation. Damara Goff Paris is a free lance writer and has frequently written for Silent News and DeafNation. She is currently writing a book on Deaf Women of the Pacific Northwest.
